About

Art has always been my passion. However, it has taken me many years to call myself an artist and put my work out into the world.

I chose art history for my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and pursued museum work while continuing to create art in my spare time. For the past several years I have been fortunate enough to spend some time every day in my studio, experiencing the amazingly joyful state of creating.

Travel has been an important part of my life, and continues to be a deep love of mine and a great inspiration for my art.

I am passionate about nature, history, mythology, maps and old prints and drawings. I have a particular obsession with the sky and the ephemeral quality of clouds. I am also interested in the smallest, often unnoticed, elements in nature like stones in a river. Somehow all of these elements find their way into my work. After many years of experimenting with different media, I now work primarily in mixed media on panel beginning with a layer of wall compound. The wall compound provides texture and depth, and creates an immediate impression of age. I often use charcoal or pencil to create textural elements in my work and frequently bury words beneath layers of acrylic paint. I like the idea of a hidden message or element of mystery.

When I am in my studio painting, I experience profound peace and a wonderful sense of flow.

My intention as an artist is to create work that calms and soothes the viewer. In this increasingly busy world we inhabit, I hope my paintings provide creative inspiration for others and a place where one can gain a moment or two of meditative peace and quiet.
